“I love you”, she whispered
“I hear you”, he said
The softness of his skin
The smile on his face
The laughter from his heart
Will always conjure the words
“I love you”…
She said
He laid his precious head upon her shoulder
As she cradled him one more time
From another long day spent
Running from one thing to the next
Exploring
Behaving
Being
She stroked his hair
She kissed his cheek
“I love you”, she whispered
“I hear you,” he said
Time has gone by
Too quickly
Too quickly with such velocity
With every beat of her heart
She scurries about
Doing her best to keep up with
His fast pace
His enthusiasm for climbing
His daring for jumping
She touched his toes
Traced her finger up his ankle
Remembering a time when
It was she who carried him
Until the time came when he could carry himself
“I love you”, she whispered
“I hear you”, he said
She often wonders
Have I said it enough times
Has he really heard me
Does he understand the depth
Will it carry him through
He reaches out and grabs her hand
Squeezing it tight
To let her know
I understand.
He gazes up into her eyes
She gazes back down
Together
Hand in hand
They cross the street
Ready to explore
And grow some more.
Until they came to a new place in time
Where he wants to let go
To be more on his own
He squeezes her hand
One
Two
Three times
He walks forward
Toward a new way of being
Toward a new doorway
Stepping more confidently
Into himself
She wonders
Will he be Ok
Will he need me
Will I be able to carry him again
Touch his toes
Kiss his nose
Snuggle his belly
Or is this “it”?
Slowly he turns
Feeling her angst
“I love you” he whispered
“I hear you”, she said.
