To me
The hardest part of
Motherhood is

The constant
Mom
Mom
Mom
Mom

I can
And do
Handle
All the rest
Really well
Exceptionally well

It’s just the constant
Mom
Mom
Mom
Mom
That can take me
Down

It’s in those
Moments
That I have to
Remember
To Pause
And ask
Please
Please
Please
Please
Can you give me
Just a few minutes
Of silence

I need to
Remember to
Share

It is not you
It is me

I have a load
Going on right now
It’s been a rough day
I have to complete a task
I need to make a call
My mind is full
I’m really tired

Please
May I have just a few minutes
Of silence

Often times
That plea is answered
With just that
A few minutes of silence
Carried by the wiggles and giggles
Of little bodies
Wrenching to be seen and heard

It is just so hard
For them
To stay and remain
Still

No actually
It is impossible
Unless I turn on the tv
Or video game
Then
Then
Then
Then
There is silence
In my home
In my space
In my mind

The wiggles and giggles
Of childhood cease
I get a reprieve
And they
They
Get a mind full of garbage
Distraction from being
And there beautiful
Desire to connect
Be seen
Be heard
Be accepted
Gets turned off
Way off

I have another
Choice in that
Moment

Help them to find
Something else
A game
A job to complete
They actually love a job to complete
A card to make
For someone special
Just because
A cake to bake
Knowing that I can make
Fun out of the massive
Clean up coming my way

And then
Then
Then
Then
I can take a break
I don’t need much

Us moms
Actually don’t need much
Because we are strong
Powerful
Resilient
Built for this job
Of being
Mom
Mom
Mom
Mom

It is however
About the asking
About the taking
About the making
A new moment
For you
For them
For Motherhood

PS…
Don’t think
For a minute
Or two
That the tv
Doesn’t go on in my house
Cause it does
A lot
More then I like
And I am
Working on it
