On mornings when we have big, slippery snow
The drive is slow while the eyes are focused
Worries can escalate
As we wonder
Are going to get there
Or not
It is the perfect time
To take a deep breath
Sit back into our seats
Chat about how sometimes
Our idea of how a day should look
Changes with how
The day actually decides
To unfold on its own
There is nothing we can do
To change anything going on
Outside of us
We can only be with
How we feel inside
About what we see
Today we chose to let go of any
Concerns of getting there on time
We chose to view the winter white downpour
As a majestic dance of wind and snow
We chose to recognize
That we are all in this sluggish commute together
Sending all the other drivers
Wishes of warmth and safety
We chose to chat even more
About school, activities, crushes
About where we would like to go
The things we dream of doing
Until
At a turtles pace
I rounded the bend to their destination
Mom can you drop me off in front
Mom can you drop me off in back
I had two separate requests
Which if honored
Will add even more time to this gradual ride
Of perfection
But honestly
There was a pull within
To say no
I need to get moving
I need to take care of me
There was a pull within
That also said
How about you stay here instead
In this moment that you have been sharing
Complete this to the end
And so I did
I dropped one off in front
With a smile of adoration
I dropped a second off in back
With a kiss and wink of affection
I continued on toward my next destination
Choosing to reflect upon
How today was yet again
Another wonderful day to be present
To what is
While connecting with
What I truly love the most
Listening to my heart
While responding to the needs and desires of theirs
To just be
With me
In this
Winter Wonderland
Together
