I knew the moment
I walked in
The front door
I had found my new
Home
I instantly felt
Safe
Protected
Nurtured
Welcome
As I glanced around
My heart sang
With delight
At the oddities
Abound
There are different colored walls
One yellow
One green
One red
The rest white
Or is that crème
Or are there years of dreams clouding my view
There are three levels
The lower
With a wood burning stove
I only know how to turn on a switch
Not set sticks on fire
Beneath my very foundation
This shall be interesting
There are two green overhead lamps
Once reigning over the nightly
Game of pool
A bathroom
Adorned with slatted wood
And a gold mirrored shower door
A bedroom with four closet doors
Draped in cloth
Leaving the admirer
In wonderment asking
Why
The main level
Has a white u- shaped kitchen
With a pass through to the dining room
Making anyone over 5 feet tall
Have to bend in half in order to see
Onto the other side
There is a bay window
Looking out upon the long curved drive
Where bunnies frolic
All day long
Driving my dog crazy
All day long
There is a living room
With the a brick fireplace
Reaching to the sky
Another wood burning vessel
Waiting for someone
To give it a damn switch
So that once again
I don’t have to catch wood sticks on fire
In my Home
That endeavor
Belongs in the woods
Under someone elses supervision
Cause this momma
Doesn’t want to work at
Setting, stoking or sweeping a fire
This momma
Prefers a switch
Gas light
Beautiful flames
No hassle
I digress
The upper level
Holds the bedrooms
One yellow with an owl on the light switch plate
Igniting my 7 year son to immediately
Declare that it shall be his
As the owl will be his buddy
Together they will make this space
Their forest of adventure and play
The second is in the middle
Declared to be my 11 year old daughters
As she feels secure
Comfortable
Relaxed
Resting safely between
Some big, soft love
The third is my space
The master
I like the sound of that
Master
It is large and spacious
Has a deck out to the yard
Some walls are painted pumpkin
Others are painted
I don’t know what color
But they are painted
And I am Home
Here I feel like
Me
With my many layers deep
My multitude of expressions
Colored by variety and charm
There are hints of possibility
Resting upon the wings of my soul
Whispers of lives lived
Stains of hurts endured
Here I feel like
Me
Where I am welcome to be
Multi dimensional
Curiously questionable
Colored by doubt of not knowing
Which way to go
How specifically to feel
Resting on it all
With no real rhyme or reason
Just open to the opportunity
To be uniquely
Me
Here in my home
Where dreams are called into manifest
Where the doors stay open for them to fly
Where it feels to be impossible to hide
Or play small
For this home
Calls to my body to move
My heart to feel deeply
My voice to loudly affirm my innermost longings
My desire to dare to declare to the world
I am here
I want more
I am grateful
Home
As you keep me safe
Show me a new way
Of being expressive
Raw and real
As you push me forward
With the knowledge of yesterday
The potential of tomorrow
Toward a life beyond your walls
For I knew the moment
I walked in the front door
I was ready
To be seen
Heard
Held
Accepted
In a new way
In a new space
That calls me to be
Truly
Me
